Meet Your Coach
Hi, I’m Lindsey Martel.
I’m a mother of two, homesteader, and a dedicated student of life. My deepest desire is to walk with honest, courageous, and wild women in service of their highest truth. I believe that motherhood is a gift and a responsibility that has the power to elevate us to our most conscious and loving selves, if we are only humble enough to accept. Sovereignty in pregnancy, birthing and mothering is a key component in the healing that our world so desperately needs, and my mission is to take part in that healing.
I was born and raised in a friendly little town in southern Maine. Even as a child, my dream was to spend my life here, so much so that I now own, and live in the nineteenth century farmhouse that belonged to my maternal grandparents. My children are the fourth generation in our family to live in this house, and raising them here with my beloved husband is truly a dream come true.
After high school, I attended the University of Maine in Orono and earned a bachelor’s of science in nursing. I spent a decade working as a registered nurse, witnessing first-hand the failings and dehumanization built into our healthcare system, while doing my best to be a warm and reassuring presence to every patient I interacted with. I began to realize that the entire system was designed to fail the very people it was supposed to care for. Unsafe staffing ratios, rapid turnover, and compassion fatigue were not the exceptions; they were the necrotic foundation upon which the entire, top-heavy empire rested. Like many of my colleagues, I was burnt out and jaded just a few years into my career. I began exploring more holistic forms of care like mindfulness, removing processed foods and chemicals, and became a certified 200h Yoga Teacher.
In October of 2021, surrounded by societal chaos, I made the radical choice to step away from my career as a nurse. I could no longer remain out of integrity, serving a system so clearly designed to keep my fellow humans weak, sick, and dependent. I was also not willing to outsource my important life decisions to policy-makers driven by fear, control, and profit.
I have given birth to two boys. The first was a traumatic hospital birth, from which I continue to heal and learn. My second son was born at home, witnessed by a midwife, birth assistant and my husband. The healing that I felt during that single event was the beginning of my journey to wholeness and truth.
In March of 2022, I began the transformative experience of attending the Radical Birth Keeper school. This immersive program was life-altering. It gave me the language and tools I had been searching for, and it helped me sow the seeds that I hope will grow into a life of service to courageous women who are ready to align with their inner truth, and own their birth.
My prayer for you, dear sister, is that you find that spark inside yourself, the remembrance of your brilliant inner wisdom and strength. May you feed your own fires, shine your own light, and help to heal this world.
