Blizzard
She was born one night in a snow storm
A hundred miles from anywhere
Her mama climbed that sacred mountain
She didn’t need anyone there
She had the wisdom of her elders
She had the knowing in her bones
She had the courage running in her blood
She had the safety of her home
So she moved like an ocean as she rode each wave
And she howled with the wind as the next one came
Her wildness and wonder shook the Earth
The perfect, holy dance of Birth
There were moments of fear
When she just wanted out
But the voice in her heart whispered
“Don’t give in to the doubt”
The snow blew in from the North and the East
And the world outside turned white
She dug down deep as her openness peaked
And the blizzard reached its height
With the thunderous force of every Woman on Earth
She forged ahead through the storm
Her baby inched closer with every surge
A new soul soon to be born
Free from the tethers of obstetrical chains
Her body knew what to do
They shifted together, mother and babe
And made their way back from the blue
Finally, the moment they’d longed for arrived
A crown of fire burned bright
They emerged from the depths of the unseen realm
Their triumph lit up the night
Her tiny warm body against mama’s breast
They bathed in a hormonal glow
And rested together, completely at peace
The greatest love ever known
